What’s changing?
• The sustained monologue, currently section 10, will be removed
When will it change?
• The change will be effective as of March 2021
What does it mean for scores?
• The speaking component will still account for 25% of the overall grade. Students will continue to be assessed on their fluency, interaction, range, accuracy and phonological control.
What does it mean for the delivery of the exam?
• Candidates sitting for levels A1 and 1 will have two tasks in the speaking component/paper 02 (Picture description and Role play).
• Candidates sitting for levels 2-4 will have three tasks in the speaking component/paper 02 (Discussion, Picture description and Role play).
Why is the Speaking test being redesigned?
• Research has shown that they can continue to effectively and accurately assess candidates’ communicative skills while also simplifying their experience with the test.
As stated, these changes will take effect as of March 2021.
